- Peru’s textile and apparel exports to Latin America (excluding Venezuela) have risen 16% between January and August this year, according to the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL). In contrast, though, its global exports are down 2.5% in the same period. Latin America comprises 20% of the country’s total exports. ANDINA
- The US is to help Ethiopia grow the income generated by its textile sector from US$20m to US$1bn over the next five years. Speaking at a forum organised to with the Ministry of Industry, the head of USAID/VEGA Ethiopia said the US government is prepared to support the Growth and Transformation Plan. - The Association of Hellenic Textile Industries (SEVK) says the Greek textile industry is experiencing a slight rebound, with textile output up 8.3% over last year. Citing Eurostat data, it said trade volume has also grown by 7.1% this year so far, compared with an 18% downturn last year. - India has offered technical assistance to help Kenya revive its textile sector, which employs nearly one-third of the East African country’s industrial workforce. The deal would also include collaboration with Indian Textiles Research Association and exploratory visits for businessmen and buyer-seller meets.
