The newly appointed chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council of India has vowed to work to bring positive growth in apparel exports, adding that over the past three years growth has stagnated.
The AEPC is the official body of apparel exporters in India that provides assistance to Indian exporters as well as importers/international buyers who choose India as their preferred sourcing destination for garments.
Padma Shri Dr A Sakthivel has been promoted to the position of chairman after serving on the council for almost four decades. He has also served as a managing committee member of the Federation of Indian Exporters Organisation. He also was part of establishing the Tirupur Exporters Association in 1990.
Sakthivel says he is concerned that over the past three years the industry has been struggling to survive and the growth of apparel exports has been stagnant. However, he assured the Members of the Council that he will work with full commitment and dedication to bring forth positive growth in apparel exports. He promised that he will put efforts to find new and potential markets for India’s garment exports.
He further assured that he will convince the senior officials of the Central Government to “get the required incentives and benefits thereby reviving growth of the sector and overall exports”.
