Levi Strauss & Co has agreed a new licensing agreement with US-based laser technology firm RevoLaze that will give it access to new denim finishing processes.

The agreement builds on an earlier deal signed in January 2015.

One of the new technologies RevoLaze will be introducing is LightLaze, an automated software tool to reduce laser cycle time. The online software works on any laser system, the company says, with trials from multiple laundries showing a decrease of up to 40% in laser cycle time, without loss of detail.

By adopting this software and modifying the wash technique, it can also lead to the elimination of potassium permanganate (also known as PP) spray, along with savings in water, chemicals and time.

The agreement comes a month after Levi Strauss said it was piloting a new digital operating model to enable the jeans giant to slash time-to-market, bring final product decisions closer to the consumer, and strengthen sustainability.
