Swedish fashion retailer Lindex has pledged to donate 10% of its revenues during International Women’s Day (8 March) to the HERhealth project, which aims to improve health and lives of female textile workers.

The donation, the company says, will be used to start more HERhealth projects in Lindex suppliers’ factories. In 2017 the corresponding donation was EUR114,000 (US$141,481) which has enabled nine new HERhealth projects, reaching around 8,500 women in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China and Myanmar.

HERhealth is an education programme managed by the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR). The programme provides health education and training for female textile workers to increase their awareness of health issues and access to health care.

Lindex says the majority of its customers and employees are women, as well as those who make the clothes.

“The woman is very important to us at Lindex and we work in many ways to empower and inspire women through our business,” says Lindex corporate sustainability manager Anna-Karin Dahlberg. “We do that not only with our fashion, but also through different engagements. Respect and equal opportunities are pre-conditions for a more equal society. I’m proud that Lindex, together with our customers, will highlight International Women’s Day and HERhealth this way.”
