MOZAMBIQUE: Largest Textile Factory To Close
Textafrica, Mozambique's largest textile factory, is to close. The firm, which employs 3,000 workers and was once one of the country's largest exporters, has been struggling since the 1980s when the former Portuguese colony was in the throes of 16-year long civil war. The Portuguese company Multiplier Group took a majority holding in the firm in 1996, but Textafrica said it could no longer afford to buy raw materials.
