The ZDHC Roadmap to Zero initiative has opened up a new platform that will give the industry – and the general public – a channel to propose new substances for addition to its Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL).

Now available for use, it follows the recent launch of Version 2 of the MRSL. Submissions made via the platform will be considered for the next ZDHC MRSL update, which is planned for release in late 2021.

A transparent process and clear set of standards will also ensure the objective evaluation of chemicals, the group says. They were created by an independent MRSL Advisory Council (MAC), which makes the final decisions on substances and limit values.

“The channels are always open for any stakeholder to provide objective, scientific evidence to support a request for chemical restrictions,” says Phil Patterson, chair of the MRSL Advisory Council (MAC).

The Submission Platform offers an easy way to contribute to the ZDHC MRSL, while incorporating important measures to ensure the transparency and consistency of any updates. To protect data integrity, users are given a set of clear instructions, via a link to the ZDHC MRSL Update Principles and Procedures. This document describes the information required to successfully submit a proposed new substance to be considered for inclusion in the ZDHC MRSL. It also outlines the process for doing so.
