PAKISTAN: Textile Machinery Imports Jump 12 Per Cent
Pakistan imported 12 per cent more textile machinery in 2002 than the year earlier with many textile mills also investing in power generators in a bid to avoid disruptions in production. According to the official figures, Pakistan imported textile machinery worth $333 million in the July-April period compared to $300m in the year-ago period. Those new machines helped push cotton cloth production up 13 per cent between July and February, with cotton yarn production up five per cent.
