A pilot project to improve the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) has launched in Pakistan’s textile and clothing sectors.
The Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) programme from the International Labour Organization (ILO) offers training to help companies grow and create more and better jobs by improving their competitiveness through better quality, productivity and workplace practices.

It is being rolled out as part of the EU funded project on ‘International Labour and Environmental Standards Application in Pakistan’s SMEs.’
SCORE offers a combination of practical training and in-factory consulting. Its five training modules cover workplace cooperation, quality management, clean production, human resource management, and occupational safety and health.
Each module includes a two-day classroom training session for managers and workers, followed by on-site consultations with industry experts that help put the training into action in the workplace.
Suppliers in countries including India, China, Indonesia, South Africa and Vietnam have already participated in the scheme, and the ILO says SCORE Training has improved productivity up to 50% in participating SMEs and boasts an 88% satisfaction rate.
