A natural and sustainable alternative to leather, Piñatex is made of fibres from pineapple leaves, a by-product of the pineapple harvest. It can be mass-produced, which makes it a cost-effective textile proposition, according to Ananas Anam, which secured financing to help ramp up its supply of Piñatex in April of last year.

Piñatex is being marketed to the fashion and accessories, upholstery and automotive industries.

“Stahl is always looking for ways to reduce the environmental footprint of the industry,” says Michael Costello, director of sustainability. “That’s why we are proud to partner up with Piñatex to finish such a unique material with bio-based solutions. This is a great example of how more circular innovative materials can be introduced to the market.”
