SupplyShift, an online platform for collecting and measuring critical sustainability data across the supply chain, is teaming up with Textile Exchange in a bid to accelerate responsible sourcing practices in the global textile and apparel sector.

The move will see the addition of a streamlined set of supply chain assessment tools called ‘Textile & Apparel Supply Chain Essentials’ to the offerings available to Textile Exchange members.

The tools use SupplyShift’s platform to engage suppliers at all levels to collect and analyse high-impact supply chain data related to the sourcing, manufacturing, certification, and transport of apparel and textiles. In turn, it also allows users to assess risk, reduce supply chain impact, identify fibre sources, and generate business insight.

“Complex problems require multiple interventions. As we drive implementation of options for greater transparency and traceability, our partnership with SupplyShift will provide a unique opportunity for our members to drive significant improvement in their textile and apparel supply chains,” says La Rhea Pepper, managing director at Textile Exchange.

“This is happening at the same time that the Central Database System (CDS) is in final piloting stages. The CDS will digitise the chain of custody for all Textile Exchange and GOTS Standards to strengthen integrity and provide a backbone and collaboration point for multiple technology solutions.

“By combining our expertise with SupplyShift’s platform, we’ve created an efficient, effective system to help businesses identify supply chain risks and opportunities and embed responsible practices into their business strategies more broadly.”

According to Jamie Barsimantov, COO of SupplyShift, the new Textile & Apparel Supply Chain option “is a key piece of our effort to create a collaborative solution where textile and apparel organisations at any stage can address the issues that impact their business while developing insights that move the entire industry forward.”

Non-profit industry group Textile Exchange identifies and shares best practices regarding farming, materials, processing, traceability and product end-of-life in order to help reduce the textile industry’s impact on the world’s water, soil and air, and the human population.
