THE PHILIPPINES: New Bill To Save Fabric Industry?
A Philippine senator on Tuesday filed a bill demanding local fabric and dyes be used in uniforms for 1.4 million government workers in a bid to save the country's struggling fabric and dye industry. Senator Edgardo Angara said cheap fabric imports had devastated the domestic fabric and dyeing industry and said state uniforms should be produced from local materials such as abaca, maguey, banana and other tropical plants and animals.
