Taking a look at the week ahead for the footwear and apparel industry, here is news editor Joe Ayling’s snapshot of just-style’s latest news and insights agenda.

One of the UK’s big three sporting goods retailers, Sports Direct, will this week hold its Annual General Meeting after a year of mixed fortunes. The company increased profits by around 50% during the fiscal year 2010, bolstered by stronger sales at home and abroad.

However, in April the retailer formally withdrew an offer to buy outdoor chain Blacks Leisure, claiming a lack of information from Blacks concerning suppliers.

It is unclear whether Sports Direct, ran by shrewd entrepreneur Mike Ashley, will return for another bite of the cherry but Blacks itself has since raised funds by way of a share placement.

US fashion group Phillips-Van Heusen will post its second quarter results this week. Last quarter costs related to its recent acquisition of luxury label Tommy Hilfiger pushed PVH to a first quarter loss.

In research, just-style’s latest report, called new fashion retail channels: how consumers will be buying clothes – forecasts to 2016, addresses some of the emerging retail channels arising from online retail and social networking.
