UK supermarket chain Asda has appointed Marks and Spencer (M&S) trading director Nick Jones to sourcing director of clothing brand George.

just-style was told that Jones is to leave M&S around mid-October, and will become George’s merchandising, supply and sourcing director.

Kate Bostock, executive director of general merchandise at M&S, said: “Nick has made a significant contribution to the business over the last 15 years, most recently as trading director of home and beauty, and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future.”

Jones started as a graduate at M&S and progressed to the role of head of merchandising and women’s wear in 2004, having also gained experience in investor relations.

George executive managing director Andrew Moore said: “This experience, along with his proven ability to lead and motivate teams and deliver sustainable change, makes Nick the ideal candidate for this role.

“This appointment will support our ambitious growth plans and I am therefore personally very much looking forward to working with Nick as part of the George board. I know he will significantly contribute to the delivery of our strategy for growth.”
