Outgoing Marks and Spencer chairman Sir Stuart Rose has been appointed to the European Advisory Committee of private equity firm Bridgepoint.

Sir Stuart handed over the retailer’s executive reins to Marc Bolland earlier this year and steps down as chairman in 2011, with Robert Swannell taking up the position.

He originally joined Marks and Spencer in 1972, before moving to a number of retailers including the Burton Group and Argos, and then returning to M&S as chief executive in 2004.

“Bridgepoint is one of Europe’s leading private equity groups and a major investor in retail,” said Sir Stuart.

“I am greatly looking forward to working closely with the team and providing consumer insight for their investments.”
