Retailer Burlington Coat Factory posted a major surge in adjusted earnings in the first half of the fiscal year, boosted by a 6% sales rise.

The US company said comparable store sales in the six months to 31 July had also edged up by 1.9%.

President and CEO Tom Kingsbury said he was “extremely pleased” with the spring season result.
