The US International Trade Commission (USITC) has released its third annual report on textile and apparel imports from China as part of a request made ahead of the lifting of safeguard quotas back in 2008.

The formal textile and apparel import monitoring programme was introduced following calls from the House Ways and Means Committee, with the aim of watching import levels and prices in a bid to pre-empt any sudden surges in imports when restrictions were lifted.

The data has since been published on a bi-weekly basis on the USITC website, and the latest report – ‘Textile and Apparel Imports from China: Statistical Reports, Annual Compilation 2011’ – is a compilation of these bi-weekly bulletins.

The data is shown on an annual and quarterly basis, by category and by Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) 10-digit subheadings.

By category, annual data is provided from 2005 through 2011, while quarterly data runs from first quarter 2010 through fourth quarter 2011. By HTS10 subheading, annual data is provided from 2009 through 2011, and quarterly data from first quarter 2010 through fourth quarter 2011.
