USA: Trade Deficit, Clothing Imports Hit Record Highs
The US trade deficit widened to a record $37,638 million in May from $36,140 million in April, with economic recovery fuelling the United States' highest-ever demand for imports of clothing, motor vehicles and electrical goods, the Commerce Department reported. Exports increased to $80,635 million in May from $80,049 million in April, while imports rose more sharply to $118,273 million from $116,190 million over the same period, according to figures released by the department on Friday.
