Armedangels to use Spinnova fibre in future collections

Fashion label Armedangels has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LoI) with Finnish textile material innovation company Spinnova to secure access to its fibre for use in future collections.

The agreement forms part of Spinnova’s wider strategy to establish a consortium that will increase the availability of Spinnova fibre within the textile industry.

According to the Finnish firm, the fibre is derived from sources such as wood pulp and waste materials, including leather, textiles and agricultural residues, and does not require dissolving chemicals in its production.

The fibre can be processed using standard textile manufacturing methods, including those used for cotton, and it can be blended with other fibres to create yarn and fabrics.

Spinnova fibre is suitable for the same uses as cotton, including trousers, denim, overshirts, jackets, T-shirts, and accessories.

Armedangels innovation and circularity manager Päivi Eräpuu said: “At Armedangels, we make products people love with the least harm to the planet. Our Impact Roadmap constantly pushes us to explore new materials that can lower our footprint — and that’s exactly why Spinnova fits so well with our vision. Their fibre-making approach is fundamentally different and shows real potential as an alternative to cotton. Introducing new materials takes time, but once we commit, we go all in. Together, we want to explore the role Spinnova can play in our future collections.”

Armedangels, which is based in Cologne, Germany, claims to be one of Europe’s “largest sustainable lifestyle labels”.

Spinnova stated that Armedangels assesses all materials used in its clothing based on criteria such as origin, processing techniques, longevity, and the effects on people and the environment.

Spinnova senior commercial manager Pedro Brito commented: “We are incredibly proud to announce our partnership with Armedangels, a brand that stands at the forefront of sustainable and responsible fashion. As we build the ecosystem to support the scale-up of Spinnova fibre, it is essential to collaborate with partners who share our values and vision for a more sustainable textile industry.”

Last December, Spinnova entered into an agreement with Puma to develop a prototype sportswear using SPINNOVA fibre for future inclusion in the Sportstyle range.
