Evans first joined Asda as chief commercial officer in January 2022 and took on leadership of the brand's retail teams last year.

Following her departure, David Lepley will take on additional responsibility, becoming chief operating officer with an expanded remit covering retail operations as well as the supply chain, which he currently leads.

Meanwhile, Rachel Eyre is to become chief customer and digital officer, with responsibilities spanning all online and digital activities, including George.com, Asda Money and Mobile.

Asda indicated that recruitment of a permanent CEO for George has been completed, with the new appointee to be announced at a later date.

In the interim, line management for the George clothing division will report to Chief People Officer James Goodman, while George General Merchandise staff will be overseen by Darren Blackhurst.

Asda executive chairman Allan Leighton said: “Liz has been a fabulous steward during her time with us. Firstly, leading the George business through a period of continued growth and then taking on the leadership of our retail teams.

“Leading both, she has made a lasting impact – with our colleagues and the business more widely – and set in place the foundation for success moving forward. I am immensely grateful for her leadership and wish her all the very best for the future.”

The announcement for the departure of Liz Evans comes after Asda reported that its George clothing label outpaced market trends in fiscal year 2025, assisting in the company’s broader turnaround efforts under its Formula for Growth strategy.

The retailer’s non-grocery operations, including George, Express convenience stores, pharmacy, optical, online operations, and fuel, contributed 47% of total group revenue over the period.
