BAM's Any Weather Mac was certified by the Circular Textiles Foundation and is designed to be fully recyclable at the end of its lifecycle.

BAM claims traditional waterproof jackets, which typically combine multiple materials and chemical glues, are difficult to recycle and often destined for landfill. By contrast, all major components of the Any Weather Mac - including the membrane, adhesives, fabric and trims - are made using polyester derived from 95% recycled content. Only the zip head, which is removable, is not part of the polyester ecosystem.

BAM’s manufacturing process also avoids petrochemical glues to increase recyclability. Instead, the mac's seams are bonded using ultrasonic heat sealing and a specialised polymer adhesive, both compatible with the coat’s material, allowing the garment to be mechanically recycled without disassembly.

“Our technical and design teams alike have gone above and beyond in taking on the challenge to make a waterproof mac that’s not only recyclable, but great looking and high performing, meaning our customers don’t have to compromise," commented BAM's marketing director Clare Coughlan.

The mac's waterproofing treatment is described as plant-based and does not use “forever chemicals” such as polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Customers can also return their Any Weather Mac via BAM’s take-back scheme when the product reaches the end of its useful life. The company claims this process guarantees the coat will be recycled rather than sent to landfill.

BAM’s broader sustainability initiatives include using nature-based or recycled materials in over 90% of its products, the development of its 73 Zero fully circular range, and a “Product DNA” transparency feature, allowing customers to track production stages via a QR code.

The brand’s move to introduce a certified recyclable waterproof coat aligns with growing scrutiny over the end-of-life treatment of clothing, particularly in technical and performance categories notorious for challenging recycling processes.
