The BGMEA's supporting committee is expected to assist the new administrator with updating the organisation's voter list ahead of the upcoming board election, which is scheduled to take place in approximately 120 days, according to local news reports.

The Bangladesh government dissolved the restructured board of the BGMEA and appointed Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) vice-chairman Md Anwar Hossain as its administrator on 20 October following ongoing claims of electoral fraud from its most recent election in August.

After the election, the BGMEA's responsibilities will be transferred to the newly-elected body.

Local news publication New Age said the BGMEA issued an office order signed by its new administrator Md Anwar Hossain, which said that "in accordance with Section 18(2)(a) of the Trade Organisations Act, 2022, a support committee comprising members of the BGMEA had been established to assist the administrator of the trade body in carrying out his responsibilities."

Local news publication The Business Standard lists the 10 members of the committee as:

  • Shahidullah Azim of Classic Fashion Concepts Ltd
  • Miran Ali of Misami Garments Ltd
  • Asif Ashraf of Urmi Garments Ltd
  • Shams Mahmud of Shasha Garments Ltd
  • Enamul Haque Khan Bablu of Ananta Clothing Ltd
  • M Mohiuddin Chowdhury of Clifton Fashion Ltd
  • Rezwan Selim of Softex Cotton Pvt Ltd
  • ANM Saifuddin of MS Wearing Apparel Ltd
  • Shihabouddoza Chowdhury of Amity Designs Ltd
  • Sharif Zahir of Ananta Apparels Ltd

Sources are said to have told local news publication The Financial Express that "the committee includes five members from both BGMEA panels of BGMEA—Sammilito Parishad and Forum—that contest its elections."

The BGMEA had not responded to Just Style's request for comment at the time of going to press.

Earlier this week an industry expert told Just Style the appointment of an administrator could signal instability in the eyes of global fashion sourcing executives.
