Carbonfact buys Vaayu to scale product-level climate data

Environmental apparel and footwear data platform Carbonfact has acquired Berlin-based product impact platform Vaayu to expand its product-level environmental data capabilities as fashion brands prepare for tightening sustainability regulations.

The deal brings Carbonfact’s network of more than 200 brands, including On, Ganni and The North Face, to Vaayu’s existing customer portfolio and expertise in retail and fashion sustainability data.

Carbonfact said its platform covers product impact measurement, carbon accounting, eco-design and environmental reporting tools. The company’s database includes more than 150,000 fashion-specific emission factors and primary data from more than 7,000 textile factories.

Following the acquisition, the combined platform will serve more than 300 apparel and footwear brands.

The companies said sustainability teams are facing growing pressure to prepare for regulations requiring product-level environmental information, including the Digital Product Passport, the French Eco-Score and California’s SB253.

“The fashion industry has a data problem that no amount of ambition can solve without the right infrastructure," explained Marc Laurent, CEO of Carbonfact.

“Upcoming regulations require a shift from corporate-level data to product-level data. This deal gives the industry a single, rigorous foundation, and it unites two of fashion's most comprehensive datasets. Vaayu's customers will find a platform that handles every framework and compliance deadline they face, backed by data depth that no other platform in this sector can match."

Namrata Sandhu, founder and CEO of Vaayu, added: "We started Vaayu to give retail and fashion companies the granular, product-level climate data they need to actually decarbonise, not just report on it. Carbonfact shares that conviction, and together we can deliver it at the scale this industry now requires. Our customers will get the same rigour they trust us for, now paired with the compliance coverage their next chapter demands.”

Founded in 2020 by former Zalando head of sustainability Namrata Sandhu, Vaayu developed one of fashion’s early product-level carbon platforms. The company was backed by Atomico and CapitalT. Carbonfact is backed by Alven, Headline and Y Combinator.

The data platform also said it is developing what it describes as “Environmental Intelligence”, an AI-powered system intended to help fashion businesses manage climate data and reduce environmental impact beyond compliance reporting.
