As part of a multi-year offtake agreement between the partners, Nike will receive Loop’s circular polyester resin produced exclusively from textile waste, Twist.

Twist resin will enable the reduction of both virgin and recycled flake polyester within Nike’s product range.

Loop introduced Twist, which is produced using its proprietary depolymerisation technology, in August this year.

The resin is designed to deliver high purity, consistent colour and dyeing properties, and enhances production efficiency, ensuring seamless integration with existing spinning and manufacturing systems, said Loop.

Loop said that all products made with Twist will have “full traceability” through its proprietary chemical tracer technology. This enables Nike to verify the presence of textile-to-textile recycled content.

Nike materials supply chain VP Sitora Muzafarova said: “Our agreement with Loop Industries marks a pivotal step toward transforming textile waste into high-performance materials.

“This partnership exemplifies our commitment to scaling sustainable solutions that deliver both environmental impact and product excellence.”

The agreement established the athletic footwear and apparel brand as the “anchor customer” for the Infinite Loop India manufacturing facility, which Loop is building in collaboration with Ester Industries.

This facility is one of two sites, along with the Terrebonne facility, which Loop planned to use to increase Twist production.

In August this year, the company finalised the purchase of the site in the Indian state of Gujarat with an initial deposit of $1.7m.

The Infinite Loop India facility is expected to deliver greenhouse gas emissions that are 81 per cent lower than those associated with conventional fossil fuel-based polyester production.

According to Loop, the annual reduction could amount to as much as 418,600 tonnes (t) of CO₂ emissions.

Loop Industries founder and chief executive officer Daniel Solomita said: “We are very proud to have Nike as our anchor customer, this agreement is a major milestone for Loop Industries and for Infinite Loop India.

“The commitment from this iconic global brand is a powerful validation of our strategy to provide a verifiable textile-to-textile polyester resin and advancing circular fashion for our apparel customers.”
