Syre says it will work with Target to integrate textile-to-textile recycled polyester into its apparel and homeware, offering consumers more sustainable options.
The partnership hopes to use 70,000 metric tonnes of polyester, made using end-of-life textiles, and integrate them into Target products by 2030.
“We couldn’t be more proud to continue working with Target to bring next-generation materials into retail at scale,” commented Dennis Nobelius, CEO at Syre. “This collaboration helps accelerate adoption and supports the continued development of circular textile solutions across the industry.”
Syre previously signed a multi-year agreement with sportswear giant Nike, to integrate circular polyester into the brands’s performance lines. Syre is Nike’s lead strategic supplier for textile-to-textile recycled polyester.
“At Target, our guests look to us for innovative materials without compromising on style, design and value,” stated Stephanie Grotta, vice president of responsible sourcing and sustainable capabilities at Target.
“By advancing textile-to-textile recycled polyester at scale, we’re strengthening our supply chain and continuing to offer quality products at a great value.”
The news follows shortly after Syre announced a strategic partnership with Jeplan, a Japanese sustainability specialist. The textile impact company plans to use Jeplan’s chemical recycling expertise and existing operations to accelerate its timeline towards full commercialisation.
“These leading brands recognise the importance of securing access to emerging material solutions,” added Nobelius. “As we scale, these partnerships will help enable both commercial success and continued progress toward a more circular textile industry.”
