Thermore launches fibre insulation made from recycled polyester

Thermore, a supplier of thermal insulation for clothing, has launched Ecodown Fibres T2T, a loose fibre insulation produced from recycled polyester waste sourced from the textile industry.

The material consists entirely of recycled polyester, with 80% derived from post-industrial textile waste and 20% from post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.

According to Thermore, the fibre enables the conversion of polyester waste from textiles into thermal insulation for garments.

The company states that, unlike conventional downcycling methods, this process preserves the insulation quality present in its other products.

Thermore managing director Patrizio Siniscalchi said: “I have personally coordinated the Thermore research group for years, and the theme of circularity and textile-to-textile has long been the subject of study by our team. In fact, just as we pioneered the use of recycled fibres from PET bottles over 40 years ago, in recent years we have worked on the revaluation of textile waste. Ecodown Fibers T2T is already the second generation of padding we have produced using these important resources.”

In addition to its sustainability feature, Ecodown Fibers T2T offers high loft and softness, and can be used in multiple manufacturing processes, including blow-filling into baffles, inserting into panels, or hand application.

According to the company, the insulation’s structure is designed to “stay stable” over time thereby reducing clumping.

Ecodown Fibers T2T holds Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification, which verifies recycled material content and production traceability.

The product is also certified to Bluesign and OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which address chemical management and product safety requirements.

Thermore stated: “Ecodown Fibers T2T represents an evolution for the world of fashion and sports, towards solutions where responsibility, performance, and style find a concrete balance.”
