True Religion is reportedly working with JPMorgan on the process, which remains at an early stage, Reuters reports.

True Religion is owned by ACON Investments, which acquired a controlling interest in the business in December 2024 alongside SB360 Capital Partners, an affiliate of the Schottenstein family.

Since the acquisition, the company’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation have nearly doubled to about $150m annually, according to Reuters. The business generates close to $550m in annual revenue.

True Religion had not responded to Just Style's request for comment at the time of writing.

Founded in 2002 in Los Angeles, True Religion initially built its business around premium jeans and became known for its distinctive “Super T” stitching. The brand later filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and again in 2020 during the pandemic.

The company has since expanded beyond its original denim focus, offering lower-priced jeans and a wider range of products across clothing categories, genders and age groups.

Chief executive Michael Buckley said on a podcast this month that jeans account for between 35% and 40% of revenue.

Buckley described the company as an “urban casual lifestyle brand”. The business has also benefited from renewed consumer interest in early-2000s fashion, according to the information provided.

True Religion is based in El Segundo, California, and operates about 60 physical stores. Buckley said the company aims to increase that number to 150.

No buyer has been identified, and the sources did not provide a timetable for the process.
