Australia to host new responsible fashion summit

A new industry event is taking place in Australia next month to discuss the business case for responsible fashion and what it takes to be a relevant brand and retailer in the era of transparency and accountability.

A deep dive into apparel supply chains, a look at the social and environmental challenges facing the sector from climate change to the circular economy, traceability to worker empowerment, will all be discussed at the Legacy Responsible Fashion Summit.

It also promises to present brands and retailers with practical initiatives, opportunities and solutions, from waste-free design and fibre tracing to worker empowerment collaborations and mapping projects.

Organised by industry consultancy Ndless:The New Normal in partnership with The Australian Fashion Council and Fashion Revolution Australia, the two-day event in March will consist of panel discussions, keynote presentations and breakout sessions.

Speakers confirmed so far include executives from Country Road, Kit Willow, Spell & The Gypsy Collective, Bassike, The Iconic, MIMCO, GlamCorner, Nudie Denim Co and Bianca Spender.

Presenting their case for the event, organisers point out the apparel sector is “under pressure and facing a clear call to action: adapt to the new normal of circularity, system redesign and accountability or risk its very future. In this era of transparency, the call is getting louder. Remaining relevant in a post growth world means radically reinventing value, purpose and profits.

“In so doing, we can recognise the vast ecosystem within which the fashion industry lies, unlocking numerous opportunities for creating a new legacy. One that is regenerative, restorative and empathic in nature.

“The urgency with which we need to redefine the business of fashion requires leadership. Bold, committed and acutely aware of the transformative power it has at its fingertips. The future of the industry depends on it.”

Legacy is aimed at chief executive, finance and operating officers, executives responsible for managing ethical sourcing and sustainability agendas, procurement and risk management professionals, design, buying and fabric teams, emerging designers, and academics.

The Legacy Responsible Fashion Summit will take place on 13-14 March at the NSW Teachers Federation Conference Centre in Sydney, Australia. Click here for more details.
