Cone Denim ‘first’ in North America to join Renewcell Circulose Supplier Network

Cone Denim says its Greensboro, North Carolina-based denim mill has become the first mill in North America to join Renewcell's Circulose Supplier Network (CSN).

Cone Denim points out that joining the network is among several initiatives it is undertaking to accelerate the adoption of circularity in the industry.

Circulose is a next-generation raw material derived from the recovery of cellulose found in worn-out clothing and transformed into a dissolving pulp made from 100% recycled textiles. The pulp serves as the foundation for various types of regenerated fibers, including viscose, lyocell, modal, acetate, and other man-made cellulosic fibers.

Cone Denim further explains that since 2022, it has been actively participating as one of the US trial partners for Accelerating Circularity, a nonprofit that catalyses new circular supply chains and business models to turn spent textiles into mainstream raw materials.

Through this programme, Cone Denim has incorporated recycled and circular fibres into products at scale, including offering denim brands RCS-certified, post-industrial waste (PIW) recycled cotton from its mills in China and Mexico.

Circulose Supplier Network, launched last month by Renewcell, is a network of yarn and textile producers committed to streamlining and increasing circulose production across the supply chain.

In addition to this, earlier in March Cone Denim established a certified supply chain for recycled cotton in Mexico.

Last month, apparel manufacturer Crystal International Group Limited joined Renewcell’s Circulose Supplier Network (CSN) to step up its circularity efforts.
