Archroma, G-Star RAW and Advance Denim have renewed their joint commitment to produce aniline-free denim apparel based on Archroma’s Denisol Pure Indigo 30 in a bid to move towards circularity.

The three companies explained they have shared a objective of delivering high-quality denim garments in authentic blue hues that are devoid of the aniline impurity that is typically found in conventional synthetic indigo production.

Archroma created Denisol Pure Indigo 30 to address the challenge of aniline, which is a byproduct retained in traditional denim manufacturing that pollutes waterways and oceans when discharged as wastewater.

Denisol Pure Indigo 30 is said to offer a 30% pre-reduced indigo solution that facilitates the production of aniline-free, indigo-dyed denim.

The solution is said to not only eliminate aniline from the denim production process but also reduce water consumption for preparation, washing, and wastewater treatment compared to conventional indigo grains.

It is also claimed to lower hazardous chemical consumption while allowing high reproducibility and preserving the iconic deep indigo shades synonymous with denim.

G-Star RAW’s partnership with Archroma and Advance Denim, which started in 2019, aligns with its goal of incorporating 20% Cradle to Cradle Certified fabrics into its collection by 2025.

The aniline-free Denisol holds a Gold Level Material Health Certificate from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute to ensure its compliance with eco-standards and retailer requirements.

“Denim that is free of aniline can also be more efficiently and sustainability recycled and reused, making circularity a more viable option,” said Umberto De Vita, the market segment director for denim, Archroma Textile Effects.

He continued: “We are delighted to see trendsetters like G-Star RAW ramping up aniline-free production with Denisol Pure Indigo 30, proving that sustainability is achievable with improved productivity and authentic deep indigo shades.”

Advance Denim managing director Amy Wang said: “We were the first mill in China to launch an aniline-free collection with Archroma and our new plant in the resort town of Nha Trang in Vietnam is a 100% aniline-free indigo factory with Denisol Pure Indigo 30 by Archroma.”

Advance Denim director of Europe marketing Johan Van den Heede added: “Our partnership underscores our dedication to sustainable practices, exemplifying our commitment to environmental stewardship.”

Advance Denim’s aniline-free indigo collection is said to offer a range of rich authentic indigo shades in different yarn characters and sustainable fibre compositions with multiple innovative constructions.
