- The Asean-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) has helped lift Chinese footwear imports into Indonesia by 47% the Ministry of Industry said at the weekend. The trade pact came into force at the start of the year. ANTARA
- The government of Zimbabwe has launched an HIV/Aids policy for the textile sector that makes it mandatory for labour inspectors to check compliance with HIV and Aids standards when inspecting workplaces. It is claimed that exposure to spinning mills and dye chemicals has compounded the effects of HIV and Aids. ALL AFRICA
- India’s state-owned National Textile Corporation (NTC) plans to set up new textile units in the country with three of the units in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat starting operations the next six months. Two new mills are also being set up in Rajasthan for geo-textiles and a medical/technical textile unit in Coimbatore. EXPRESS INDIA
- German socks and underwear maker Falke KG will shut down its production factory in Ozmanbuk, south western Hungary. The Ozmanbuk plant currently employs 200 people and has been operated by Falke for the last 20 years. MTI
- French fashion chain New Man has sold 29 shops to clothing group Zannier. The deal will provide fresh funds to New Man, which is in the midst of a restructuring after sales plunged 29% in 2009. LA TRIBUNE
