- A new foreign trade organization, Uztuqimachilikexport, is being established in Uzbekistan aimed at expanding the export of Uzbek light-industry products and the technological upgrade of domestic textile enterprises, according to the Jahon information agency. The key function of the new structure is to provide a system-based assistance to light industry enterprises in organising exports of their products under direct contracts and through trading houses abroad. - Bangladesh garment industry owners have urged the government to exempt the sector from tax at source for at least two years. They made the call at a recent pre-budget discussion with the National Board of Revenue. India’s biotech regulator GEAC has decided to transfer the responsibility of conducting evaluation and giving approval to genetically modified Bt cotton to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). This responsibility was previously with a Standing Committee in Department of Biotechnology (DBT). Bt cotton is the only GM crop approved for commercial cultivation in India. The chairwoman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka, agreed that the two countries should enhance cooperation. Ngan suggested her host stimulate Czech investment in Vietnam’s fields of interest, including renewable energy, metallurgy, mining, infrastructure development, supporting industries, environment, textile & garment and mechanical and electronic manufacturing.
