Han Bekke, president of the International Apparel Federation (IAF), says more collaboration is required in the apparel supply chain amid news the 35th IAF World Fashion Convention will take place in Pakistan.
Speaking at the 14th edition of Prime Source Forum in Hong Kong, Bekke said the industry’s supply chain is “dramatically fragmented,” and despite “many initiatives worldwide to make the sector more sustainable,” more collaboration is needed.
Bekke shared with delegates the IAF’s decision to participate in projects with global reach and accent on industry development and harmonisation, including its work with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Social & Labor Convergence Project (SLCP), and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) to reduce audit and standard fatigue. The IAF also works with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) on SME alignment of its Higg’s index.
A global network for the apparel industry with members in more than 60 countries around the globe, the IAF aims to unite all stakeholders of the fashion and apparel industry including brands, retailers, manufacturers, suppliers, and country associations from around the world to enable and promote smarter, stronger and more sustainable supply chains.
The 35th IAF World Fashion Convention will for the first time be held in Lahore, Pakistan, on 12-13 November, in conjunction with the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA).
The event will take as its theme ‘Let’s grow together for a more prosperous and sustainable future,’ and aims to open new avenues for the domestic garment industry to collaborate with international buyers and leading global brands.
