US sports apparel and footwear giant Nike Inc is launching three new footwear products for summer 2019 as part of its nod to sustainability.

The Nike Plant Color Collection, featuring the Air Max 95 and the Blazer Low, has been inspired by “alternative ways to make colour” and uses plant-based dyes.

The Nike Flyleather Earth Day Pack shoe uses the group’s “supermaterial” Flyleather, which is made with at least 50% recycled natural leather fibre.

While the third launche is the Nike VaporMax 2 Random, which uses excess Flykint yarn that would otherwise have gone to landfill.

Recently, Nike was named among those companies that have each used the equivalent of more than one billion plastic bottles through their uptake of recycled fibres

In its latest set of financial results, the group reported a 10% jump in total revenues to $9.4bn for the second quarter ending 30 November, a rise of 14% on a currency-neutral basis.
