Teijin Frontier, the fibre product converting business of Teijin Group, has developed what it says is a new linen-like polyester fibre, designed for use in outwear, trousers and blouses.
The company developed the linen-like polyester by utilising a special technique to capture the “unique uneven feeling of linen”. The fibre, in addition to offering the resilience, lustre and natural appearance of linen, also boasts properties that natural linen materials do not, according to Teijin Frontier.
While natural linen is prone to wrinkling and bleaching, Teijin Frontier’s linen-like polyester is wrinkle resistant and retains its colour thanks to dimensional stability. In addition, the new fibre does not stick to skin, is stretchable, washable, can be tailored and is comfortable due to its fine, uneven surface.
The material is a slab yarn in which thin and thick parts appear alternately, with the thicker parts measuring 100mm or more in length. Thanks to its specific structure, the fibre maintains its linen-like appearance even when circular knitting is used.
Teijin Frontier will commercially launch the fibre in the 2019 spring/summer season, targeting annual sales of 250,000 metres by the fiscal year ending March 2021.
