Turkey has begun a safeguard investigation to determine whether increased imports of nylon yarn or other polyamides are hurting domestic producers.

According to a filing by the World Trade Organization (WTO) the safeguard investigation was initiated on 30 December – and Turkey is now asking interested parties to complete questionnaires on the issue.

During a safeguard investigation, importers, exporters and other interested parties may present evidence and views and respond to the presentations of other parties.

A WTO member may take a safeguard action – that is, restrict imports of a product temporarily – only if the increased imports of the product are found to be causing, or threatening to cause, serious injury.
