The Lee Company, a leader in jeanswear and casual apparel, today announced that the date has been set for Lee National Denim Day 2000. On October 6th, businesses and organizations will participate by letting employees wear denim to work for a $5 donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The goal this year is to raise $6 million in a single day.Lee National Denim Day is the nation’s largest single-day fundraiser for breast cancer. In four years, Lee National Denim Day has raised more than $16.5 million for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.Actor Rob Lowe is celebrity spokesperson for this year’s campaign. Both Lowe’s grandmother and great-grandmother had breast cancer.”It’s time for men to talk about this terrible disease,” says Lowe. “If there’s someone in your life that you really love — your mother, your wife, your daughter — you need to talk to them and make sure they take care of themselves, because early detection and treatment are critical to fighting breast cancer.”Lowe is coming off a smashing first season on NBC’s “The West Wing.” In the coming months, Lowe will make appearances for Lee National Denim Day on television talk shows, in radio and magazine interviews and in a national print ad campaign.Donations from Lee National Denim Day have funded everything from research grants to community outreach programs.
