Lycra launches VintageFX fibre at Kingpins Amsterdam

Fibre maker The Lycra Company has launched its Lycra VintageFX fibre to the global market during Kingpins Amsterdam, held on 15 and 16 April 2026.

The fibre, designed for denim and woven fabrics, enables brands and textile mills the ability to recreate vintage denim appearances without compromising on recovery, durability, or comfort for the wearer.

Designed specifically for denim and woven textiles, Lycra VintageFX fibre is said to address the industry’s growing move towards wider and looser denim fits.

The fibre supports patterns such as wide-leg, flare, boyfriend, and mom-style jeans, where maintaining stability and fit presents certain challenges, particularly in the waist, hips, and crotch.

The Lycra Company denim and ready-to-wear product category director, Ebru Ozaydin, said: “After previewing Lycra VintageFX fibre at Kingpins Amsterdam last year, we’re excited to officially introduce it to the global denim community. For brands and garment makers, its dual-core yarn construction, low growth, and high recovery open new design possibilities. These features enable compact, less bulky fabrics with an authentic vintage appearance, but without the instability of traditional low-stretch constructions.”

The new fibre is constructed using a proprietary dual-core system, combining Lycra fibre with Lycra VintageFX in a method intended to ensure consistent stretch and recovery. It is engineered so that, during the finishing stage, the fibre contracts under heat.

This process allows for controlled elasticity, protection of the fibre core, and improved shape retention, which helps reduce issues like bagging and sagging in garments.

According to the company, the material is designed to maintain low growth and recover well, even after undergoing industrial washing and bleaching processes. Its compact construction provides improved drape and minimises bulk.

The fabric features an authentic vintage denim look, while offering soft compression and a gentle feel against the skin. It also reduces seam slippage, which supports higher garment quality and extends the product’s wear life.

The Lycra Company brands and retail vice president, Arnaud Ruffin, added: “Lycra VintageFX fibre enables brands and retailers to deliver a strong consumer value proposition, filling a critical market gap while elevating collections. This product shows how our commitment to textile innovation supports the value chain with unique, performance-driven solutions.”

VintageFX has already cleared thorough in-house testing to confirm consistent performance and quality.

Brands and mills will have access to Lycra Labs, providing opportunities for co-creation and technical support in developing new products utilising the fibre.

During the Amsterdam show, visitors also viewed sample fabrics and garments made with Renewable Lycra fibre, which contains 70% plant-based inputs, as well as Lycra ADAPTIV fibre, which is designed to offer improved size adaptability in denim products.
