In a statement, Asos said its priority is the safety of its colleagues and partners in Ukraine and Russia. Immediately following the invasion, the retailer suspended sales in Ukraine, noting it became impossible to serve customers in the country. "Against the backdrop of the continuing war, Asos has decided that it is neither practical nor right to continue to trade in Russia, and has, therefore, today (2 March) suspended our sales there. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and all those affected in the region.” Asos said in FY21 Russia and Ukraine represented about 4% of group revenue and contributed approximately GBP20m to group profit. Fellow online retailer Boohoo Group has also confirmed to Just Style it switched off its Russian website before the weekend. A report published by Reuters this afternoon said the group had suspended sales in Russia following the ongoing conflict. Boohoo Group does not have any sales channels in Ukraine. Russia officially invaded Ukraine on 24 February with missile strikes and explosions near the country’s major cities, according to international news outlets. The apparel industry says that if this continues, it could lead to increased costs on raw materials for the sector as well as challenges due to rising energy prices.
